Lakeland Medical Center
In 1986 at 27 years old I started my own company to develop commercial real estate. I knew very little except I wanted to do it. I spent a few years developing cookie cutter design build projects around the South. Lakeland Medical Center was my first “big” building.
The Story
In 1988, I was asked by some friends to develop a medical office building for them and their other doctor friends in Jackson, MS. Their surgical group desired to be in a location that would allow them to be next door to the outpatient surgical center they worked in every day.
That initial idea became a 55,000 SF Class “A” medical office tower on Lakeland Drive. The site was right across the street from University Hospital and down the street from St. Dominics Hospital. A perfect spot for a first-class medical office building.
I was able to secure all the physician tenants and a master lease on the balance of the space from the public company that owned the surgical center next door. The building was 100% pre-leased before we started construction. I created the plan, leased the building, hired the people, secured the financing and managed the construction and the building after it was built. Thirty plus years later the building still looks good and is a productive busy place.
